PD1 Angels from the realms of glory, Wing your flight o'er all the earth, Ye who sang creation's story, Now proclaim Messiah's birth;2 Shepherds, in the field abiding, Watching o'er your flocks by night, God with man is now residing, Yonder shines the infant-light; [Refrain] 3 Sages, leave your contemplations, Brighter visions beam afar, Seek the great Desire of Nations; Ye have seen his natal star; [Refrain] 4 Saints, before the altar bending, Watching long in hope and fear, Suddenly the Lord descending In His temple shall appear; [Refrain] 5 Sinners, wrung with true repentance, Doom'd for guilt to endless pains, Justice now revokes the sentence, Mercy calls you--break your chains; [Refrain] 6 Though an Infant now we view Him, He shall fill His Father’s throne, Gather all the nations to Him; Every knee shall then bow down: [Refrain] Here are two doxologies, either of which may be sung as the final stanza of the hymn:

7a All creation, join in praising God, the Father, Spirit, Son, Evermore your voices raising To th’eternal Three in One. [Refrain] 7b Lord of Heaven, we adore Thee, God the Father, God the Son, God the Spirit, One in glory, On the same eternal throne. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Lord of Heaven, Three in One.Tunes:
Historically, the tune for this Christmas hymn was IRIS, which in a different arrangement called GLORIA is the tune used almost universally in the United states for "Angels We Have Heard on High". The tune name IRIS alludes to the fact that the hymn was first published in the Sheffield Iris, the newspaper which Montgomery edited.
IRIS
Nowadays, IRIS remains dominant in the United Kingdom, but REGENT SQUARE has taken over in the United States.
